As augmented reality (AR) becomes more mainstream, designers need to understand the power of this new medium and its implications for the future of digital design.

We'll start by taking a brief tour around the current scene of AR and what creation/distribution platforms are the primary contenders in this space. Creative uses for marketers, the thought process behind gamification, and covering commercial applications for the workplace will all be a focus of this presentation.

Finally, we'll discuss the future of AR. We'll examine the biggest players in this space (Facebook and Snapchat), what is Google building, and what Apple has cooked up (from a predictive standpoint).

Our October meeting will feature a panel of local graphic designers who will discuss Self Publishing. Our talented panel includes: Christine Grieves, OhG Design; Ron Hill, Act 3; Jamie Hills; Judith Sagan. You will be able to purchase autographed books for gifts and for yourself.

    Christine Grieves
I'm a cloudless optimist tickled “yellow” to be able to do what I love in the city I love, Cleveland, Ohio. My fondness for all things creative, started well before the ripe old age of five and continues today behind the studio walls of OhG Design. I received a BFA in visual communication design from Kent State University, worked for a world-class public relations firm, leading up to creating a successful design business. Most recently, I’ve become an author and illustrator of a children’s book, That’s Sooo Yellow, inspired by the discovery of my personality matching my favorite color. Though my favorite color is yellow, I do have an appreciation for all things colorful.

    Judith Sagan

Judith graduated from Rhode Island School of Design in 1987 when Desktop Publishing was just starting. I worked in a studio in Boston, Massachusetts for 9 years and left that job to have my one and only child.  Worked at Sherwin-Williams doing color consultations for customers and  began selling my digital photography when I moved to Cleveland in 2004. In 2014 I enrolled in TRI-C to learn Photoshop and Illustrator. After learning Photoshop, I began shooting images for my book Spike loves Cleveland. In 2015 I enrolled at TRI-C in Early Childhood Education so I can teach preschool age children. A few years ago I asked myself, what do I want to do with my golden years, and the answer was to work with the most creative people on the planet, four year olds. My creativity blossoms when I am a part of children at play. I expect to graduate next Spring.

"Spike Loves Cleveland" sums up the best places and landmarks to visit in Cleveland. All these hot spots are featured in Spike's new book!

    Speaker Bio:
My 20 plus year career in graphic design began in 1983. During that time approximately 50% of that time I was a self employed freelance designer/production artist. I knew full well what it was like to pull together my own benefits. I had to shop for my own insurance and learned how it applied to my needs, sometimes the hard way. In 2001, after over 8 years with a great company with full benefits, I experienced a layoff as the company downsized and then closed a short while later. In 2002 I obtained my insurance license and my new career began. At this point, I have 15 years experience helping others find health plans that meet their needs. As an independent agent, I am self employed and still shop for my own health plan. Being an independent agent allows me to offer plans from various carriers and offer an objective overview of what is available. My approach is to educate and consult. The idea is to help clients choose what will best meet their needs and fit their budget.

Do you wonder why your photos don’t look like what you expected? It’s such a beautiful world. Why are photos that come out of our cameras so flat and unemotional? It’s because our eyes can see more light than a camera can capture. The solution to capturing the beauty of a shot is HDR.

HDR is an abbreviation for high dynamic range. HDR photography allows you to create stunning and mind-blowing photos that include incredible lighting, color, and detail you couldn’t otherwise achieve by taking a single photo. An HDR photo displays maximum details for recreating all the beauty you perceived at the moment you took the shot.

When it comes to editing and creating your HDR photos, Aurora HDR is the world’s most powerful HDR software made exclusively for the Mac (coming soon for PC). Aurora HDR is a joint project developed by Macphun, an award-winning software company, and Trey Ratcliff, the world’s most renowned HDR photographer. Aurora HDR is fast, easy to use, and allows you to create stunning HDR photos in minutes.

    Here’s what you’ll learn:
    The basics of HDR photography

    • The benefits of HDR
    • Tips, advice, and secrets of HDR
    • About the Mac app Aurora HDR
    • How to create and edit HDR photos
