Assistant Director of Brand Marketing

Position Reports to: Director of Brand Marketing 

Fundamental Objectives of this Position:

The assistant director of brand marketing is responsible for supporting the director of brand marketing in the development and implementation of marketing efforts for the Mount Union administrative offices, including marketing publications, editorial content, and digital communication.  The position is an integral part of positioning the institution’s overall brand through developing strategy related to marketing/communication through the website, email, media relations, and print publications and ensuring its implementation. The position reports to the director of brand marketing and must be able to interact and communicate effectively with colleagues and all constituents of the institution, particularly members of the Office of Advancement, Office of Alumni Engagement, and The Mount Union Fund.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Supports the brand of the University by ensuring the use of target messaging in web content, email communication, print publications, editorial content, and other marketing efforts
  • Performs marketing functions for the Office of Advancement, Office of Alumni Engagement, The Mount Union Fund, and other assigned administrative offices by:
    • Developing and implementing strategies and processes that support the overall brand strategy
    • Acting as the point person to requests and inquiries
    • Soliciting and obtaining information and content required for implementation of the brand marketing strategy
  • Develops and implements short and long-term goals, objectives, policies, and procedures regarding printed materials and other designed works in collaboration with the assigned administrative offices
  • Writes copy for a variety of purposes including website, video and radio scripts, publications, social media, and email communication
  • Schedules press releases, writes news releases, and edits releases written by other individuals
  • Utilizes social media sources including Facebook, Twitter, Snap Chat, YouTube, and Instagram to promote Mount Union’s programs, students, faculty, and alumni
  • Makes updates to the Mount Union website and blog as it pertains to the administrative offices
  • Designs and distributes email communication as it pertains to the administrative offices
  • Designs publications including, but not limited to, brochures, flyers, posters, newsletters, postcards, booklets, and advertisements and works with both internal and external printers
  • Assists the Director of Brand Marketing in creating content and/or design work for the Mount Union Magazine
  • Works with photography and scheduling professional photography when needed
  • Supports the production of videos supporting administrative offices
  • Responds to copy requests from third parties
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned by the director of brand marketing
  • Participates in University compliance training as communicated by the University, the vice president for marketing or the director of brand marketing 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics:

  • Coursework, experience, or demonstrated knowledge of marketing and communication principles
  • Strong publication design skills
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with all Adobe products including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially demonstrated in working with faculty, students, and staff
  • Ability to contribute independent thought while working on collaborative teams
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends in addition to the regular day
  • Ability to communicate with colleagues to understand and resolve issues
  • Versatile writing skills including creative and journalistic styles

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates should hold at least a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, English, or a related field; Three to five years of experience in a related role is desired, preferably in higher education.  A demonstrated knowledge of marketing principles, copywriting, publication design, and editing is essential. Desirable attributes include excellent graphic design skills, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills as well as the ability and enthusiasm to learn new systems and techniques and to work in a team environment.  This position is a 12-month administrative position. Evenings and weekend work will be required for special projects.
