As augmented reality (AR) becomes more mainstream, designers need to understand the power of this new medium and its implications for the future of digital design.
We'll start by taking a brief tour around the current scene of AR and what creation/distribution platforms are the primary contenders in this space. Creative uses for marketers, the thought process behind gamification, and covering commercial applications for the workplace will all be a focus of this presentation.
Finally, we'll discuss the future of AR. We'll examine the biggest players in this space (Facebook and Snapchat), what is Google building, and what Apple has cooked up (from a predictive standpoint).
Bill Myers (@vrbanist) is a Virtual and Augmented Reality Evangelist and Consultant in Akron, Ohio. With experience at both Apple and several startups, Bill has traveled all over the world designing and curating experiences, all while sharing them through his VR learning platform, vrbanist.com. He started the Akron VR/AR Meetup two years ago, as well as the Cleveland VR/AR Meetup this past year. Bill has lectured at a number of other colleges in Northeast Ohio on both hardware and experience design.
