A professional designer, illustrator and paper engineer from Cleveland Ohio with over fifteen years professional experience in product design at American Greetings. Keith has published two pop-up books, A Day in Rehoboth Beach, A Pop-Up Book, and the new What a Mess! A Pop-Up Misadventure, the latter funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign. Keith will have signed copies of his pop-up books available for sale. Check out this PBS Video sharing the experience of creating, “What a Mess! A Pop-Up Misadventure."

Cathie Bleck (www.cathiebleck.com)

After a long successful career as an illustrator, Bleck now divides her art practice between art exhibitions, primarily in North America and selective commissions for museums, print and publications. Bleck’s work, at various unrestricted scales, in ink, clay-pigments and graphite, explore interconnected forms and transformative symbols, derived from a rich engagement with the natural world.

Bleck earned her BFA in Design and was awarded distinguished alumni at the University of Illinois C-U. Her artist monograph “Open Spaces” was released, followed by two solo museum exhibitions at The Butler and the New Britain Museums of American Art. Her work has been exhibited extensively, including recent shows in Chicago “Immersion” (2019), “Avance” (2017) “frAGILITY” (2013). Her work is also in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum and has been profiled in Juxtapoz magazine. Bleck has recently launched an Etsy shop for her prints and product @ https://www.etsy.com/shop/Bleckbird. Cathie is looking forward to this exchange as we all navigate how to sustain and thrive in our art careers.

Hilary Gent (https://www.hedgeartgallery.com)
Hillary is gallery director, event planner and painter at the Hedge Gallery and 78th Street Studios in Cleveland’s Gordon Square Arts District, Northeast Ohio’s most eclectic and engaging arts destination. Its popularity is due, in large part, to the pioneering efforts of Hilary Gent.

Hilary has spent the last ten years staging public exhibits, launching art walks, and planning elaborate receptions for individuals and organizations, all of which have transformed the way residents and visitors view the Northeast Ohio Region. She was one of the first visionaries to plant roots in a forgotten century warehouse, creating unforgettable art events through her space, HEDGE Gallery. What started as an underground activity attracting a few hundred people every quarter has grown to become a monthly art mob of thousands, called THIRD FRIDAYS, which according to Scene Magazine is “The Best Arts Event” in Cleveland.

Inspired by his love of architecture, Mike creates his architectural impressionism by drawing the image freehand with a radiograph pen and then painting the drawing with several layers of acrylic washes.

After graduating with honors from New England School of Art & Design in Boston, Mike was drafted and was a combat photographer in Vietnam. Following Vietnam he was a graphic designer and illustrator, an art director and then a creative director for advertising agencies in locations from Boston, to Cleveland and Cincinnati. He formed FishFace Graphics, Inc. and for 20 years with his wife, Michelle they ran a successful design business. Upon retirement, Streets Art became his new endeavor and for the past 11 years they have exhibiting in numerous galleries and traveling the states doing an average of 20 to 25 shows a year. Best in Show and other awards have been common for his stellar work, which is also held in many private collections and has shown in numerous galleries.

Jess creates fun stuffed animals called Cool Critters. They can be plush monsters, extraterrestrial softies, unsettling couch companions, pet toys or best friends. They are 100% hand made in the Midwest with materials sourced from the USA when possible. Jess makes every single Cool Critter with her own two hands. The embroidery is done by hand, the bodies are sewn on an industrial machine, and each eye is individually painted, making it a truly one-of-a-kind piece of fuzzy art. She currently resides in Tremont.

Salli S. Swindell (https://www.salliswindell.com)
Salli S. Swindell is an illustrator, entrepreneur and cat lover living in Hudson. Salli and her brother Nate Padavick are the founders of They Draw & Cook and They Draw & Travel the internet's largest collection of food and travel illustrations created by artists all around the world. The goal of both sites is to showcase and promote the work of freelance illustrators. When Salli is not in her comfy and colorful studio, which is exactly 10 steps from her kitchen, she is out hiking one of the beautiful trails that make up Cleveland’s Emerald Necklace.


Moderator:

Linda Barberic (a CDPUG member) and the producer at Keith Berr Productions. She has held positions in some of Cleveland's top advertising agencies and produces photo shoots from resorts in the Fiji Islands to ad campaigns for Liberty Mutual, Aldi, ADT, Verizon, AT&T, General Mills, McDonald’s, Newell Rubbermaid, and Burger King. One of Linda’s other passions is yoga, where she has been sharing her knowledge of anatomy and yoga-healing for over a decade. She also founded and operates the SomaTea Company, specializing in healing teas and tisanas.

    Please join us for a panel of well known local artists discussing their favorite illustration and painting apps on the iPad. The conversation will include sharing insights about the variety of hardware products available. Our panelists will show art examples and explain how they were created.

    Nancy Aikins presented to CDPUG on iPad way back in 2014 and will impress us again with her prolific use of apps. Nancy will review DistressedFX and DistressedFX+, Matter, Art Set, TrimaginatorMetaBrush, Art Rage, Adobe Capture, Assembly, InShot, and Ripl.

    Henry Lee will share his opinions on Linea Sketch, and the Affinity Suite of apps that includes Affinity Designer (illustration), Affinity Photo. An advantage of this app suite is that it has Mac and Windows equivalents including Affinity Publisher for page layout. A version of Affinity Publisher for iPad in the works. Publisher will not be part of the evening's agenda. Henry will address font support and other new features of the recently released iPadOS.

    Jeff Suntala uses the very popular Procreate frequently and will discuss it extensively. He'll also talk about the new iPadOS version of Photoshop and how it compares to Procreate.

    Panelist Bios:

    Nancy Aikins has a BFA from Ohio University in Ceramics, Printmaking and Drawing and is an alumni of the Penton Art Department, where she worked in presentation, design and illustration. She got her start there making digital images on a 386 and has worked on an iPad since 2011. She is experimental and a lifelong doodler. Currently has 32,975 images in the Cloud.

     

    Henry Lee is a product of the Cleveland Institute of Art and Tri-C, Henry's diverse background includes Industrial Design, Illustration, Desktop Publishing and Computer Science. Over the last 2 decades he has worked in the packaging and printing industries and is a long time employee at Copy King. Henry is a past president of CDPUG and a very active participant having presented many times.

     

    Jeff Suntala is a more than thirty year veteran of the business of illustration, and feels lucky to be able to do this for both a living and a hobby. Every year he brings new insight into the creation of imagery, both traditional and digital - learning new styles and exploring visual logic to solve a client's communication needs.

     

    Moderator Bio:

    Spike Radway participated in the founding of CDPUG in 1987 and is the current Director of Programming. The iPad is a productivity tool he frequently uses for running his company. Spike is also the owner of Team Spike Consulting, LLC a local computer consulting business that assists creative professionals with the technology tools to express their artistic and business aspirations.

    Join us for a panel discussion of Web Design experts who will discuss UI Design. WordPress and other platforms will be covered.

    We’ll also talk about Cleveland GiveCamp, an upcoming weekend event where 200 volunteers assist 20 local non-profits with their technical and design projects. It’s a very rewarding experience and designers are always in need.

    Our panel will include:

    Lisa Gruber-Gebby. Lisa Gruber-Gebby is Principal of OrangeWall Creative, a design and interactive firm with over 25 years of experience. Lisa takes pride in solving business problems using web and interactive technologies – as well as providing branding and print solutions for a client’s entire strategic focus. We use up-to-date technology to create websites, apps, interactive technology, SEO, graphic design/illustration. Lisa is at heart a designer and visual problem solver and loves to find different solutions and technologies to support a client’s direction. Lisa graduated from CIA in 1993 with a BFA in Graphic Design, Minor in Photography.

    Dallas Riffle. Dallas is president of DRM, a growing full-service marketing agency located in Fairview Park, Ohio. DRM is a brand-focused agency whose mantra is “We don’t offer solutions because we don’t see marketing as a problem. Marketing is an opportunity to tell the story of your brand.” DRM develops websites on many platforms, but always puts the user experience first. Dallas attended the University of Akron for Drawing & Painting and later Tri-C for Web and Graphic Design, and is a graduate of Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses initiative. He has worked in the creative field for over 20 years.

    Adam Corrao. Adam is the owner of Corrao Designs, a website design and development agency based out of Parma. He works primarily in WordPress, Wix, and Shopify - holding a certification within each platform. Adam also hosts a YouTube series called "UI Design for Designers" in collaboration with Wix, teaching you bite-size tips and tricks on website user interface design. The best way to describe Corrao Designs is a creative, young, fresh website design agency that builds websites designed for the new age. The single focus of Corrao Designs is to design and develop websites that are custom and stunning so your business can wow the internet.

    Remington Philips. CDPUG Past President and current Director of Digital at radio broadcaster Connoisseur Media, Remington Philips creates digital strategies that help brands reach their audience. As a project leader, he has created WordPress, Drupal and custom developed solutions for organizations ranging in scope from small business to enterprise level. He has taught WordPress to students, and is currently working on a project of migrating 30+ data intensive websites to WordPress from other platforms.

    Heidi Cool. Heidi Adam Cool Web Design & Strategy, has 25 years experience in web development with a background in marketing that includes advertising, direct mail, copywriting, design, photography, product marketing and Internet marketing. As a marketer and web strategist, Heidi develops web sites and social media plans that are meant to serve the needs of both clients and their target audiences. Useful content, whether delivered via web site, blog or other channels attracts visitors. She has been building custom WordPress sites since 2007.
